Medical X-ray Pop Quiz

18 month old female presents to clinic for well baby check. Physical examination reveals hip click. An x-ray is performed. Which of the following is the apparent abnormality?

a) hip dysplasia
b) femoral head fracture
c) foreign body
d) constipation
f) pelvic girdle fracture

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you answered c) foreign body, you are correct. Carley had her well baby visit this morning and had to have an x-ray to check out a "click" (no pun intended) in her hip. Her hips are fine, but they did have to redo the x-ray because she had swallowed a hair clip!!! Carley strikes again!
We'll keep you updated on the passing of the hair clip. It should come out sometime this weekend...or else we'll be heading to the hospital. We're keeping the hair clip too. So that every time you see our girls you'll be wondering, in the back of your mind, if that's the one.......

That is so crazy. Did you have any idea that she had swallowed it? Have fun with looking for it. ;)

Did you really hear a clicking sound and if so, was it related to the hair clip??? Crazy.

Poor Carls. I swallowed a penny when I was her age. She's a curious girl. And, puhleeze, throw out the hairclip!!!

their is a clicking sound, but it's from her hip, NOT the clip...funny though!

and no we had no idea she'd swallowed anything

Looking at the X-Ray I think you should have told EVERYONE that she indeed has a pin in her hip...perhaps even the doctor! That way she doesn't look like the original "Crazy Carley" that we all have come to love so dearly!

My jaw dropped when I read this! How crazy!!! Actually, it's not crazy for a kid to swallow things, but it's so weird how you found out! Good luck!

Hahahahahaaa! I bet that its the purple one she was chewing on Wednesday night! She probably hurried and swallowed it so she could have the root beer float ;0) I guess I should have taken it away from her... my bad!

Glad you're okay Cece! :)

Whaat??? Oh my gosh Millie! That is insane! I am thinking the same as sanaejames...I bet Daisy has some legos tucked away in her belly. That is so scary! I am happy to hear that something that huge does not require surgery. Poor Carley!

She's OK!!! She passed it yesterday afternoon without even noticing! It came out in 2 pieces and was pretty corroded and yucky. It was pink, and we didn't keep it (I couldn't do it)...just in case you were wondering.

Oh my! This whole story is great now that you wrote and said she had passed it! I can't believe how you found out and I bet it wasn't fun looking for it. Love those funny kid stories!

Wow! What a story for her baby book! Glad everything "came out" okay. A hair clip doesn't sound very fun to pass. Adia was totally amazed at the x-ray picture. Glad Carley is fine! :)

I'm so glad that's over! And you say that she didn't even know!! Being that it was in two parts is a bit scary seeing that it was intact on the X-ray. Give her a big hug of sympathy for me...have one yourself too for enduring the ordeal!

No way, that's crazy! I can't believe you have a x-ray to prove it. AWESOME! Good luck!

The Cronicles of Tapa...the cat.

OK Cat lovers of the world explain this....we're going on vacation and wanted to board our cat, but they wouldn't take her unles...
