Gibralter

We went to see Gibraltar with some new friends from the base.  We had a lovely drive to get there, only about 1 1/2 hours through some beautiful country.  It was pretty amazing to see the rock of Gibraltar jutting out of the skyline as we approached the town.  It is so huge!  Impressively huge!

After parking and walking into town we took care of the really important things....filling our stomachs!   I have to say that it was nice to hear a bit of English being spoken too.

Why we didn't all cram into the token red phone booth for a photo is beyond me...it just didn't cross my mind.  A missed opportunity.  The kids thought they were really cool though.

We had 6 kids in our group and soon realized that they couldn't do the amount of walking that was going to be required for the day.   So we bought out an entire van from a tour company and he took us all around the island!

First stop...the pillars of Hercules

Back into the van for a crazy ride up the rock...the road was narrow and the driving scary!

Next stop...St. Michael's Cave.  The kids got to explore inside and see stalactites, stalagmites and columns, straight out of science book.

On to the main attraction....the monkeys!!  They were crazy!  We had to be very careful with our belongings and to be sure we didn't have any, and I mean any food on us.  They jumped on top of the van and us!  They were really cute and insanely crazy!

Finally we made it to the top of the rock.  It was cloudy, so we couldn't see Africa, but it was still an amazing view.  Felt like we were at the top of the world!
