An oops and an uh-oh

This is what happens when little boys, who are constantly reminded to put their bikes away in the proper place, DON'T LISTEN TO THEIR MOTHERS!
Luke decided that the best place to park his bike today was in the driveway, directly behind our van. So, the photo isn't that great (I was trying to keep it together, I was a little upset) but pretty much says it all. I totally backed over his bike. The handlebar is almost bent completely in half, the left pedal is gone, chain mangled, tire flat, seat stuffing coming out......and now we have a huge inch-deep crevice in the street by our driveway. At first I thought the bike put a hole in our tailpipe, but after some investigating it seemed fine. I informed Mr. Luke that I would not be running out to the store to purchase him a new bike today (sniffles from his corner). I said he was going to have do extra jobs around the house to earn money to pay for a new bike (again, sniffles from his corner). So tonight I'm making a little list of odd jobs that he can do to make some fast cash...he's already made $1.00.

I did the same thing. Ran over my daughter Kailee's bike because she left it right on the driveway. We ended up doing something similar...making her do extra stuff around the house to earn a new bike. I know the feeling. I just smiled to myself when I read your post..I guess all mothers deal with similar things!

I will make sure Tobin and Annika read your blog! The only thing we have run over so far is a volleyball they left out. (my favorite one:(

Oh big bummer for Luke!! Gotta listen to momma-she ALWAYS knows best. Making him work for a new one is a great idea-he'll hopefully be extra careful next time since he'll have to work for it. Just be thankful you didn't damage your vehicle, or that Luke wasn't ON the bike!

I ran Adia's little Dora four-wheeler, too. We didn't replace that one. :)

Uh oh....big smoke trouble for Mr. Lucas. Tell him to appeal to grandpa for a little donation.

He made himself a little "collection jar" this afternoon. I'm sure he'd take any handouts!! I'm going to start calling him Lukerella!!

That one really stings as a mom because you tell them to put away their bikes for a GOOD REASON!

Look at it this way, it wasn't one of your kids. I am always so nervous when I back out of the driveway. You hear those crazy stories. Anyways, poor bike!

Hey Lukas - If you do something for us... we just might send a donation to you bike fund. Since we live far away, maybe you could dream up some special art work or something or other. You think about it and get back to me.

Your Cousin,
