One consolation to Trent being gone is that we knew he would be coming back to the states for the annual military family physician conference. This year it was held in Palm Springs, so we jumped at the chance to be together for as a family. I already had plans to attend the wedding of Geddes & Jill, so the timing was perfect. Trent could fly into Salt Lake City to see family and then we could drive down to the conference and he could fly out from there. We decided to take the kids out of school for 3 weeks! Yikes! I was nervous to tell the school, but they were really wonderful and understanding about it. The kids' teachers just gave us work to do while we were away and that was that.
So, being my crazy, slightly insane self I packed up the car, stuffed the kids in at 4am and off we were to road trip across the country. I was pretty stressed out because I didn't know for sure if Trent would make his flights or if he'd even show up at all. That's military life for ya!
The kids were stellar in the car!! I only had issues a few times. The first day driving was long, 14 hours. I stopped about every 3 hours for potty breaks and I stopped at a few rest areas so the kids could run around. At the hotel, we swam of course and I ordered pizza. I thought the kids would all go back to sleep once we started driving this morning, but nope, all 3 stayed awake all day...I guess I'm not the only one excited to see Dad!! Overall, the 22 hour ride to Salt Lake City was extremely pleasant! Maybe I should be writing a thank you letter to Nintendo for this, but between the DS's, movies and snacks they were totally chill!
Westward Ho!!
