Carthusian Horses

Some friends from Trent's work invited us to go see a horse show at the Yegulda Horse Ranch.  Southern Spain is famous for their "dancing" horses.  We were able to tour the ranch, learn some history, see the studs, mares and young colts.  Afterwards we were treated to a show in the big ring!  It was very exciting and so much fun.  We enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to go again.



Part of our tour was checking out the colts.  They were a little skiddish, but curious too.

I loved that the workers were dressed up.  It made us feel like we were having a traditional experience.

The Show

First they let all the momma horses run wild into the arena.

Then this guy was demonstrating his control over such a large group.  They had to stay in line, move forward and backward at his command and stop on demand too. 

Time for the dancers.  It was interesting to watch the beautiful lines and motions that these horses and riders went through.  I felt a little bad for the horses becasue they were foaming at the bit a little.  I don't know the first thing about horses, so I'm not sure if that is normal or not...it just felt a little harsh to me.  BUT, it was beautiful to watch.

This was my favorite part.  It was really exciting to watch the team race around the track.  They were very fast, I really wanted a ride!!

Finally they let all the colts run wild into the arena and then they were joined by the mommas.  It was so cool to see each mom find her baby and then try to stand between it and the audience.  So protective!
