Shadow Shot Sunday #1

My sister, Alissa, has been participating, on and off for about a year I think, with an online photo group that is in love with shadows.  The thought has intrigued me for quite some time, but life has been busily going in other directions for me.  However, life has slowed down for me as of late and I decided a new project was in order.  One that was just for me...not involving my husband or kids or anybody...just me, myself and I.  So, this is it!  I am joining the Shadow Shot Sunday crowd!!  I'll try to post a picture with a cool shadow element each week, we'll see what cool things will cross my path.  Click here if you'd like to find out more.

Jules is in town for Thanksgiving and I wasn't going to miss out on seeing her.  Trent is visiting too and I haven't seen him in such a long time.  Her schedule was pretty packed so one afternoon I shoved the kids into the car and off we went for a visit!  It was so fun to hang out, eat yummy food and talk.  It felt just like old times when I practically lived at your house! 

I had to laugh when I couldn't get up the driveway b/c of the snow.  We had to hoof it up the hill...so typical!!

California Kidz!!

Last weekend it "snowed" for the first time.  The kids woke up early and saw a thin blanket of snow covering the grass and white flakes in the air and went ballistic!!  I had to laugh b/c what was really coming down was a few snowflakes mixed with rain.  BUT there was no stopping them, they were in their snow clothes and outside before 7:30am.  In fact, they were the ONLY kids outside that we saw all day.  My parents and I just rolled our eyes, it was ridiculous, but precious at the same time.  You'd have thought it was Christmas morning at our house.  When they came inside their jackets and snowpants were so wet and filled with water we had to literally RING them out before they would dry!

 

Carley only stayed out about 15 minutes...then it was time for hot chocolate and dress up!

Emry- "Mom, in art class we're making Christmas presents and they are a secret."  I said, "OK, you better not tell."  Emry replies, "I know. pause...pause...pause...It's going to hang on the Christmas tree."

Carley- we were at the grocery store, in the produce section.  they had a really nice display of eggplants and they were such a gorgeous purple that i showed them to Carley.  she thought they were pretty.  right next to them were the artichokes, so i grabbed one b/c they're a strange veggie and i knew I'd never pointed them out to her before.  i grabbed one and showed her, told her it was called an artichoke...she lifted a hand to her throat and said in a very concerned voice, "that not nice, why they do that?"  i had to chuckle!!

News From Trent, Volume I

Trent sent us a box full of shells, coins, white sand, pictures and love notes.  It was fun to open it with the kids.  We were so excited to see the pictures and enjoyed a nice PowerPoint presentation Trent put together for us.  Hopefully he won't mind that I share this publicly, but since this is our family journal and since he's thousands of miles away and since he's currently out to see and can't be reached by email or phone....I've been FORCED to make the executive decision that he doesn't mind!!  Hee hee, I love having the powa!!  So enjoy the pics and Trent's comments!  And If you're reading this babe...we miss you and looooove you!!

Big Brothers

On Monday my older brothers were here.  It was a quick trip, less than 24 hours, they were here on business to pick up wood and antiques for their homes and store out west.  My dad has been scouring the local auctions since late summer, buying up all the goodies and storing them in his bedroom and office.  They were about to take over the house, so my brothers arrived just in time!!

I hadn't seen them in a while so it was exciting to have them here.  I pulled out my camera to play around while they decided the best way to pack up the trailer.  I totally annoyed them, but in the end they were good sports.

This rocker almost didn't make it onto the trailer...it was tempting to keep.  We were tempted more than once to keep a few really good finds from the auctions!  My dad retained a desk and I kept a round table that's a real cutie!

My dad was being a total punk.  This is him posing for me...totally in jest.  He loves to poke fun at me when I get my camera out.  He wouldn't let me take his photo.  I have about 9 photos of him with a finger or hand hiding part of his face and I had to listen to his little boy "I'm getting away with something" snicker...such a stinker! 

I asked them to get together the 3 of them so I could get a shot of them together.  This is what I got...they just couldn't cooperate with me.  How hard would it have been for them to sand side by side...aargh!!  They're lucky it turned out half way decent.

I love this pic of Epher!  He sat down for me for a minute and had fun with it!  He was the only one who didn't mind me taking pictures, but he's laid back like that, a good sport!
