Good Morning!!

Adam (Taylor & Jen's boy) is staying with us this week while they're in Hawaii!!  The kids are in heaven and smothering him with attention every chance they get.  He's quite a trooper and has been tagging along like one of the crowd all week long.  Anyway...we just wanted to say....

Summer Time Blues

I've been a little blue lately.  

My sisters/sisters in law and friends are all doing fun stuff this summer 

and posting neat things on their blogs.... I'm absolutely green with envy.

All I'm doing is looking at cardboard boxes.   

             Drowning in them actually.

             It's depressing.

Usually I'm excited to move, but not this time.  I want to play too!  It's summertime!  Instead of enjoying the blue skies, fresh cut grass, sun tanned bodies, crashing ocean waves and melted popsicles on babies chins ...I'm seeing dirt, dust, cobwebs, tape, broken toys and lots and lots of cardboard... THE END.

The Stuff Childhood Legends Are Made Of...

Luke lost both his front teeth yesterday!  

They have been loosie goosie for the past few weeks.  The last few days they've been sooooo loose that's it's been hard to focus on anything else when talking to him.  We've burst out into laughter mid conversation because he kind of looked like a cross between Magalina Hagalina (the funny childhood song) and Nanny McPhee (with her big tooth sticking out over her lip)!  They were so crooked, and wiggly that they were in a different position each time he opened his mouth!

Trent had been trying to get him to pull them out for about 2 weeks.  Luke wanted to do it in a fun way like the kids on America's Funniest Home Videos.  Last week he tried to tie them up to his remote controlled car, but that didn't work.  The teeth weren't quite ready to come out and it hurt, Luke got scared and wouldn't let Trent near his mouth after that.  I don't know what was different today, but he was ready.  When we suggested tying a string to a rock and his tooth, we were half joking, but he went for it and the rest will go down as

Price Family Legend!  

  As Trent tied the rock to the tooth using dental floss I bit my lip and tried to not make any sudden movements.  Inside I was scared to death.  Never in a million years would I have tied a rock to my tooth...no way!  Luke was so brave though, not apprehensive or scared 1 bit.  Holding the rock firmly in his hands, he climbed up on the picnic table, paused maybe 5 seconds and dropped the rock...success!  The first tooth was out and a huge smile spread across Luke's face!  

Unfortunately, the tooth became a casualty of the yard because it went flying into the grass and we couldn't find it.  I was worried that he'd want to inspect it and keep it forever on his shelf or something nasty like that because boys do stuff like that all the time.  Lucky for me he didn't seem to mind that it was lost forever, what a relief.

Luke wasn't sure if he wanted the second tooth to come out or not.  We began bargaining with him because it was practically falling out anyway.  Luke is a very scientific and practical kid.  We have been unsuccessful in our attempts to preserve childhood fantasies like Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth fairy with him.  He just sees right through them.  So when Trent offered him $5 to take out the 2nd tooth, he was all over it.  This time we all tried to watch where the tooth went flying, but everything happened so fast that it too became lost. 

Later that evening I asked Luke if he wanted me to just give him the $5 or if he wanted me to put it under his pillow....he answered, "you can put it under my pillow" so cute!  I love that he's growing up, but I also love that he is still enjoying childhood.  

Today he looks pretty silly and talks even sillier.  He's slurring letters and sometimes whistles when he talks too fast.  Emry thinks he looks like he has fangs.  Pretty funny stuff.  He's bursting with pride! And is totally owning the gap!

I took a few pictures of Carley today.  We've been spending our days snuggled together on the couch, enjoying each other's company before the hubbub of summer begins.

"Saving Snails"

Emry has a BFF and her name is Erin.  Erin and Emry are the type of friends that can play together all day long and then stay up to all hours of the night laughing, and never fight...makes my heart feel happy to see them together.  Anyway, we had Erin at our house to play and they decided to "save the snails" from the coyotes.  I didn't know they were doing this.  We were midway thru making a rainbow cake (yes they are 100% girlie), waiting for the cake to bake and cool.  The girls had been outside playing and asked me for a bucket.  I obliged and went on with my business.  Now fast forward about an hour.  I walk out our back porch doors and was greeted by this:

It looked more like a great escape than a rescue to me, but who am I to interpret for a crowd of snails.  Maybe they were extremely grateful and thankful that finally someone had noticed them and helped pull them out of dangers path....are snails even on a coyote's menu??



Emry & Erin were very proud of themselves and very sad when I made them return the snails to the wild.  During all of this we discussed why wild animals don't make great pets, in case you're wondering where their train of thought was headed.

New Batch of Baby Owls

We have a new batch of baby owls this spring.  This year our mom only had 2 and this one got out of the nest and couldn't get back in.  At about 1:30 am Trent and I woke up to something banging on our bedroom window.  I was really glad Trent was home b/c it was freaky and it's not fun waking up that way.  Anyhew...we figured out that it was one of the baby owls.  The mother was on our roof screeching at it and it was afraid to fly or something b/c it wouldn't leave our window sill and each time it tried, it's wings bashed into the window.  We were afraid it was going to hurt itself, but it jumped to the ground and that was that.

The next morning it was hanging out under Trent's truck and it ducked for cover into the bushes as Trent pulled out the driveway.  We weren't sure what to do.  We were worried about a coyote getting it, but the next night we could hear it and it's mother "talking".  The next day I took photos when I spied it in our yard.  Later that day, I spoke to our neighbor who's a bird guy (he has pigeons) and he called the local game warden who promptly came and got it.  Just another adventurous day living in the grove.

Bedtime Drama

Every night just as parents have done for centuries, we put our kids to bed.

Every night our wonderful son, Luke, comes out to complain about the girls making too much noise.

He has a new excuse  Every time.

Tonight's was a real beauty:

"The girls are laughing and talking...pause, pause, pause...and every time someone talks, my chin itches."

Mother's Day 2010

I had a very lovely mother's day this year.  I enjoyed a yummy breakfast in bed and a few gifts.  The kids were good in church...what more can a mom ask for???  It was fabulous!  ps, luke made me the hat
