Family Vacation 2011- Roy, UT
We went to this super cool indoor play arena. For $10 we bowled, jumped on huge trampolines, played glow in the dark mini golf and lazertag! It was totally awesome! The boys all played a few rounds of lazertag, and the girls joined in too. We even put Carley in a suit. We got to run around this arena and shoot each other, it was so much fun.
Emry was doing her own thing! She couldn't throw her balls down the alley with enough speed so her balls kept getting denied! It was pretty funny. She didn't seem to mind at all. We offered to help, but she wanted to do it all by herself. If you watch the video carefully, you can see the guards come down over the pins before her ball gets there!! funny!!
Later that evening, after the family left we drove down to Sandy, UT to have dinner with my parents. They were in town because my dad was speaking at a conference. It was a good coincidence!
Here is a video of Todd I had to get on tape since he'd recently had surgery!

Daddy arrives for a visit!!
We were all so excited that Trent was flying in today!! We get to have him to ourselves for 2 weeks!! He called us from Bahrain before boarding his flight to Washington DC, so we knew he was in the states when we woke up. We stayed at Travis & Angela's house (thank you so much you two). It ended up being a mini family reunion.
Here's who came down to see Trent:
Sunday morning we had the kids make a big welcome home banner to hang on the garage before going to sacrament meeting. We left for the airport directly after to meet Trent's plane!! We parked the car and went in to wait at the baggage claim. We were so excited. The kids looked so nice in their Sunday clothes. You could feel how anxious they were, it was very fun! So we waited. Went potty. I was keeping an eye on the arrival screen and I saw that his plane had landed, but no Trent. So we waited some more...I was starting to get a bit nervous. Then my phone rings and it's Trent. He says, "where are you guys?" I answered, "we're here, waiting at the escalators for you to come down to baggage! where are you?" "I've already got my bags, I'm waiting at baggage claim." silence...then we realize that I went to the wrong terminal!!! I said, "stay right where you are, we're coming to you!" I grabbed the kids and we ran! Up the escalators, through the tunnel, down the sidewalk of the parking garage, back through another tunnel, down more escalators and there he was!!! The kids started running and I just started crying! I couldn't even keep my phone steady to take a proper photo. If I'd been thinking I should have just video taped it! It was so precious to see the kids so elated and all wrapping their arms around their Daddy!
After hugs and kisses we got everyone loaded back into the van and headed for Travis', Trent didn't know a huge group had assembled, all waiting to see him!! The ride was great, the kids got to have Trent's undivided attention and they talked about what they were doing at school, showed him their DS's, he talked about his island and fishing. It was lovely!
As we pulled onto Travis' street we could see that he'd put about 20 flags in his yard to honor Trent. It was so nice, Trent was embarrassed of course, but I'm glad Travis thought to do something so patriotic! The rest of the day was spent getting caught up and laughing!
Here's who came down to see Trent:
- Merlin & Joy brought Gpa Kay & Gma Beth down from Idaho Falls
- Tyler flew from Portland to Boise, picked up Todd & Tobin and they drove down
- Bryce & Tawnya drove down with their 3 kiddos from Idaho Falls
- Plus our family and Travis & Angela and their 2 boys!! It was a house full!!

Congratulations Geddes & Jill
My best friend from college got married!! I had so much fun meeting her New York City friends and her new husband Geddes Munson. They are a great couple! The sealing took place in the Salt Lake Temple with a ring ceremony and reception afterward at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.
The rooms overlooked downtown Salt Lake and the temple...stunning! The decorations were simple and elegant. Both Jill & Geddes' fathers shared stories of them as children as well as stories from their pioneer heritages. I loved all the photos and stories told, it made the ceremony feel intimate and loving. I've included the two readings that were in their program. So romantic!!

A soul mate is someone who has locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we're pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person we're safe in our own paradise. Our soul mate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When we're two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are we've found the right person. Our soul mate is the one who makes life come to life. --A.A. Milne, Now We Are Six
But ultimately there comes a moment when a decision must be made. Ultimately two people who love each other must ask themselves how much they hope for as their love grows and deepens, and how much risk they are willing to take...It is indeed a fearful gamble...Because it is the nature of love to create, a marriage itself is something which has to be created, so that, together we become a new creature.
To marry is the biggest risk in human relations that a person can take...If we commit ourselves to one person for life this is not, as many people think, a rejection of freedom; rather it demands the courage to move into all the risks of freedom, and the risk of love which is permanent; into that love which is not possession, but participation...It takes a lifetime to learn another person...When love is not possession, but participation, then it is part of that co-creation which is our human calling, and which implies such risk that it is often rejected. --Madeleine L'Engle, The Irrational Season
And now, they are famous!! They were the lead story for the New York Times vows section!! Is that cool or what?!!! They got interviewed and a photographer flew out to SLC for the big day. So awesome! I thought the published article was wonderful and really captured the essence of the entity that is now Geddes & Jill!

Family Vacation 2011
One consolation to Trent being gone is that we knew he would be coming back to the states for the annual military family physician conference. This year it was held in Palm Springs, so we jumped at the chance to be together for as a family. I already had plans to attend the wedding of Geddes & Jill, so the timing was perfect. Trent could fly into Salt Lake City to see family and then we could drive down to the conference and he could fly out from there. We decided to take the kids out of school for 3 weeks! Yikes! I was nervous to tell the school, but they were really wonderful and understanding about it. The kids' teachers just gave us work to do while we were away and that was that.
So, being my crazy, slightly insane self I packed up the car, stuffed the kids in at 4am and off we were to road trip across the country. I was pretty stressed out because I didn't know for sure if Trent would make his flights or if he'd even show up at all. That's military life for ya!
The kids were stellar in the car!! I only had issues a few times. The first day driving was long, 14 hours. I stopped about every 3 hours for potty breaks and I stopped at a few rest areas so the kids could run around. At the hotel, we swam of course and I ordered pizza. I thought the kids would all go back to sleep once we started driving this morning, but nope, all 3 stayed awake all day...I guess I'm not the only one excited to see Dad!! Overall, the 22 hour ride to Salt Lake City was extremely pleasant! Maybe I should be writing a thank you letter to Nintendo for this, but between the DS's, movies and snacks they were totally chill!
Westward Ho!!
