Call me crazy....it wouldn't be the first time anyway. Judy and I took the kids to a Spanish city in Africa...sans husbands! I think we might be nutz! We planned and planned to make sure everything was safe and then we were off. The kids had a few days off of school so it was the perfect opportunity. We stayed the night in Algeciras. Took a ferry over to Africa in the morning and by lunch time we had.....wait for it...stepped foot on the Continent of Africa!

All these great cars were parked by us in the long term parking. They were filled with college age young men. We were very curious and started talking to them. These are all french 4L Trophy cars. They have an online fan club and each year they go on a road trip. This year they drove from all over Europe down to Algeciras, took ferries over to Africa and drove around Morocco. We caught these guys at the end of their trip. As of this am, they are on their way home. Made me wish I was in college again...I wanna go! Maybe I can get Trent to buy one of these adorable cars and we can tag along next year?! |

Everyone was super excited. It may not be an African Safari or Morocco, but it was Africa and I was there!
The town of Ceuta is a very charming and unique place. It's passed ownership dozens of times, everyone from the Turks, Moors, Portuguese, etc have owned this port city at some point. The current owners are Spain. The town is an an example that peaceful cohabitation can happen in this world. The town has 3 groups of people living in it...Christians, Muslims and Jews. An odd mix, but it works for this little town and everyone seems to respect everyone else.
The town is not touristy at all. In fact, we had a difficult time finding any souvenir type things to bring home. Judy really really wanted something that said Ceuta on it, but it was not found. This town is off the beaten path and not in any tourist books! We thought it was a gem and I'd love to go back some time.

The main attraction in town is this old fort. It's been here for ages and now it's part museum, restaurant and public park. It was fun to explore and the kids loved it.

That's where we came from...Algeciras is right by Gibraltar. the kids got a kick out of seeing main land Spain! |

I loved this building. If I was a millionaire I'd buy it and make the entire thing my house. It opens up onto this great pedestrian only street. It was lovely. I can't explain why i love it so much...I just do! It speaks to me! |
